This policy explains what information is and isn't collected when you use digipin.gen.in, and the choices you have. The short version: DIGIPINs are calculated in your browser, and we don't keep your location or anything you search for.
Your location
When you tap "Use my location" or "My location", your browser asks for your permission first. If you agree:
- Your DIGIPIN is calculated on your device. Your exact location is not sent to us for that.
- To suggest your likely PIN code, the site sends us your location rounded to about 100 metres. We use it to find the nearest post offices for that one answer, and we don't store it.
You can say no, or withdraw the permission at any time in your browser settings. Typing coordinates or a PIN code into the converter works the same way.
Searches
When you type into the search box, the text is sent to us so we can suggest matching states, districts, post offices and PIN codes. We don't link it to you or store it.
Information we collect
We don't offer accounts, newsletters or sign-up forms, and we don't ask for your name, email address or other personal details. We don't currently use an analytics service; if we add one, we'll update this policy first. Like most websites, our web server may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) for a short time to keep the site secure and working.
Information stored on your device
The site saves a few choices in your browser's local storage so they're remembered on your next visit: your light or dark theme, the map style you picked, and any DIGIPINs you save on the map. They stay on your device and are never sent to us. You can clear them at any time through your browser settings.
Advertising and cookies
The site is funded by ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ad performance and, where permitted, personalise ads based on your visits to this and other websites.
- You can manage personalised ads from Google in Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of personalised ads from many other companies at aboutads.info.
- Google explains how it uses data from sites that show its ads in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Where the law requires your consent before cookies are used for advertising, we ask for it before personalised ads are shown.
Services that load parts of the page
The site relies on a few outside services to deliver its pages. When your browser requests files from them, they receive standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the page you're viewing:
- Our web host serves the pages and the map.
- Google Fonts provides the typefaces.
- jsDelivr and cdnjs (Cloudflare) provide the styling, map and QR code libraries.
- Esri provides the satellite photos, only when you switch the map to Satellite.
- Google AdSense provides the ads described above.
The "Open in Google Maps" link only contacts Google if you click it. Each of these services handles information under its own privacy policy.
Children's privacy
The site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Where the site is run from
The site is operated from India. Information handled by the services listed above may be processed in India and in other countries where those providers operate.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles information, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date at the top.
