digipin.gen.in is a free directory of the PIN code and DIGIPIN of every post office in India, arranged by state and district. It also has a converter and a map that give you the DIGIPIN of any spot in India, including your own front door.
What you'll find here
- The DIGIPIN map and converter: find the DIGIPIN of your location or any point on the map, see the likely PIN code, and convert between PIN codes, DIGIPINs and coordinates.
- A page for every state and union territory, district and PIN code, listing its post offices.
- A page for every post office, with its PIN code, office type, delivery status, postal division, region and circle, its DIGIPIN when its location is known, and the post offices nearest to it.
Where the data comes from
Post office names, PIN codes, office details and coordinates come from India Post's All India Pincode Directory, published on the Government of India's open data platform. We load each new edition of the file and check it before it goes live.
A DIGIPIN is calculated from latitude and longitude using the method India Post publishes, so the same spot always gives the same code. We work it out from each post office's coordinates, or from your location when you use the converter.
How we check the locations
A wrong DIGIPIN is worse than none, so we only show a post office's DIGIPIN when we trust its location:
- Coordinates outside India, or outside the post office's own state or union territory, are dropped.
- Coordinates that several different post offices share are dropped: the file often parks offices it has no location for on one placeholder point, such as the district headquarters.
- Coordinates far away from the rest of their district are dropped.
- A post office left without a trusted location gets an approximate one from the other offices with its PIN code, marked "approximate location". It never gets a DIGIPIN.
We never fill in a location from guesswork. If you know a post office's correct location, please tell us through the contact page.
Who runs digipin.gen.in
The site is built and maintained by Unnikrishnan P, an independent developer and designer based in India with a degree in banking and finance. Read his profile or find him on LinkedIn.
digipin.gen.in is an independent website. It is not run by, or connected with, India Post, the Department of Posts or the Government of India. See our disclaimer.
Your location stays private
The converter calculates DIGIPINs in your browser. To suggest a PIN code, it sends us your location rounded to about 100 metres, which we use for that one answer and never store. Our privacy policy has the full details.
How the site is funded
The directory and the converter are free to use, with no sign-up. The site is supported by advertising, which is kept separate from the listings and the converter. Advertisers have no say in what the directory shows.
